Editing and Combining Shapes and Paths
Apply various transformation commands for editing content. Learn various methods for manipulating content by resizing, moving, rotating, skewing, and multiple transformations. Use Shape Builder and the Pathfinder to create and combine shapes.
Use Illustrators powerful Type tools to as text precisely to your layouts. Control spacing, size and text wrap.

Drawing With The Pen tool
Learn how the Pen tool draws paths precisely. Proficiency with the Pen tool and the Bezier curve editing techniques associated with it are key career skills for digital artists.
Colour and Painting
Painting techniques in depth. Gain skill with the different types of colour controls, colour types, colour groups and patterns. User Kuler, Recolour Artwork and Live Paint to create original designs
Working with Type
Adobe Illustrator is often used for complete page layouts. Work with precise spacing controls, type on path, or wrap around objects. Apply colours, gradients, patterns, and effects to the fill or stroke of type, or even change it to character outlines.
Understand how layers are useful for organizing a document. Learn to use the stacking order of objects, and creating different versions of an illustration or storing annotations that don’t print.
Gradients and Blends
Gradients and Blends create transitions between colours or shapes. Go beyond the hard-edged shapes and create unique designs by blending shapes and colours.

Become familiar with brushes in Adobe Illustrator and how they are different than the brushes in Adobe Photoshop and other image-editing and paint programs. Use Image brushes, Art brushes, Pattern brushes and Bristle Brushes to enhance your designs.
Effects, Graphic Styles and Appearance Attributes
Effects in Illustrator are similar to Effects in InDesign and Photoshop's Smart Filters. There are many types of effects, including raster effects such as the Dry Brush Artistic effect. Learn how to apply and edit all types of effects. Alter the look of an object without changing its underlying structure by applying strokes, fills, transparency, effects and more. Learn how to saved graphic styles to be used on other artwork within that document or future documents.
Symbols can be applied with the Symbol Sprayer tool or as a method for artwork management. Learn how placed symbols can be updated instantaneously throughout a document.
Combining Graphics Applications
Use Illustrator graphics with other Adobe applications. Learn how to integrate Photoshop images into Illustrator layouts as well as discover the best way to import graphics into other Adobe applications.
Preparing Content for the Web (Option 1)
Use Illustrator to prepare and export (save) artwork as optimized content for on-screen display. Learn to align content to the pixel grid. Create Character styles and CSS Code, copy and export CSS and save artwork as SVG.
Drawing with Perspective (Option 2)
Use the Perspective Grid to represent a scene on a flat surface, as it is naturally perceived by the human eye. This material contains a great deal of precision, and draws attention to the features of the perspective grid.

You’ll learn to use new features, discover exciting ways to create complex effects, and find fresh ways to use venerable old tools and speed up your workflow. Customizing the workspace and in-depth coverage of newer organizational features such as working with multiple artboards and the multi-functional Appearance panel, which can take the place of several panels.
Designing Type & Layout
Tips and tricks related to working with the type tools, as well as design and layout.
Work with newer methods for combining and editing shapes—using the semi-automatic methods of the Eraser, Blob Brush, the Shape Builder tools, Live Paint, and Image Trace—to older methods such as the Pathfinder panel.
New features in Illustrator give the user more control over Strokes. Adjust the contours of a path with the Width tool to emulate calligraphy, save its form (profile) in the Stroke panel to apply to another path. Control how pattern brushes and dashed lines fit around corners. Use “natural media” bristle brushes to make complex and painterly marks, emulating airbrush, pastel, and wet paint, and using traditional brush shapes like flat or fan.
Mastering the power of Illustrator requires a command of colour transitions and groups of colours. Focus on the many ways of colouring objects in Illustrator, from using the various panels, to creating transitions of colours with gradients and gradient mesh; also learn about group of panels and functions that Adobe calls Live Color.
Learn Illustrator tools and functions to create objects that appear to move beyond two-dimensional space. With warps and envelopes bend and bow objects (and text) in two-dimensional space, and with envelope meshes create an illusion of depth as well. Using Illustrator’s 3D effects to revolve, extrude, rotate, and map objects in three dimensions. The Perspective Grid tool creates art based on linear perspective using one, two, or three vanishing points.
Use a variety of techniques, including making patterns; working with opacity and transparency; creating multiple-object, shaped blends; working with different kinds of masks; and combining features to solve complex problems.
Creatively Combining Applications
Use Illustrator together with other programs. Moving artwork between Illustrator and other applications—such as Photoshop, Flash, After Effects, or Ideas. Learn rules and limits to moving files between programs, also techniques to make it easier when working with Illustrator and other programs.
